Fly with Give Hope Wings: The Sault to Saguenay Expedition

This fall, Hope Air is engaging pilots and planes in the 3rd annual Give Hope Wings expedition that will bridge the gap between home and hospital for hundreds of patients. It’s an ambitious multi-aircraft five-day expedition that will allow Hope Air to launch many flights so patients in financial need can reach medical care far from home.

The planes depart from Burlington, flying over Niagara Falls, up the sandy coast of Lake Huron along the Bruce Peninsula, north to Sault Ste. Marie for an overnight stay.

The following day the squadron will fly over the Agawa Canyon, catching aerial views of the east shore of Lake Superior and stopping off in Timmins and then to Sudbury for an overnight stay.

From Sudbury, they fly along the beautiful Ottawa and St. Lawrence rivers to historic Quebec City where they will stay for two nights. The following day will bring a unique fly-out over the Saguenay River fjord and the spectacular gorges of the Parc National des Grands-Jardins. The last day is a return flight to Burlington.

The expedition takes place Wednesday September 30th to Sunday October 4th, 2020 and will create vital awareness and raise $100,000 to fund 400 medical access flights for patients in financial need who must travel far for medical care. Please consider joining and supporting the expedition.

Hope Air
is Canada’s only national charity providing free travel and accommodations for Canadians in financial need who must access medical care far from home. Since its inception in 1986, Hope Air has provided more than 150,000 travel arrangements for patients regardless of age or medical need.

For people living on a low income in small and rural communities, distance and cost are very real barriers to them accessing vital medical care. Hope Air is a unique and essential part of our Canadian healthcare system. Without the access Hope Air provides, our national system of universal healthcare coverage would fall short of its promise.

Hope Air has been chosen as one of Canada’s best 100 charities by Maclean’s magazine, MoneySense magazine and Charity Intelligence based on efficiency, transparency and need.

Give Hope Wings is the largest volunteer-led fundraiser in Hope Air history. Championed by pilot Dave McElroy, a squadron of pilots circumnavigate different parts of the world in support of Hope Air. There have been two expeditions to date - the Americas Expedition and the Northwest Expedition. Give Hope Wings has raised a total of $770,000, providing more than 3,000 Hope Air medical access flights to patients in financial need with free travel to medical care far from home.

The latest expedition, Give Hope Wings: The Sault to Saguenay, takes place Wednesday September 30th to Sunday October 4th, 2020. It is an ambitious multi-aircraft five-day flight over Northern Ontario and Quebec, including four community events where Hope Air patients live and work. The expedition will create vital awareness and raise $100,000 to fund 400 free flights to patients in financial need who must travel far from home for the medical care they need.
